FaceBook Healthcare-Related Ads (Feb 6-18 2010)

Here is another post with various FaceBook healthcare-related ads that were targeted to my profile from February 6th to 18th 2010.  Obviously there are many more of these types of ads, but these are the ones that have appeared on my specific profile.  I am happy to share these with those who are curious to see what healthcare companies are advertising, and how they are doing so, on FaceBook.  This is by no means an endorsement of any of the products or services depicted, nor is it a critique of the ads themselves.  It is simply a sample viewing for those who are interested.  .

  2. There is something cheesy about them all, and I generally ignore them.

    • Many of them are, but cheesy or not, I am curious to know if the advertisers are getting the impact that they were expecting. Maybe I need to contact a few of these advertisers and see who might be willing to open up about this. Not sure that many would be willing to share this info with me though.

  3. I never really pay attention to the ads, but I have to say the nod to Seinfeld’s “Spongeworthy” episode to be a little over the top!
    How do they determine the market?

    • Funny that you mention the Seinfeld episode, because it stood out for me as well. Unless there is some information that we are not aware of (which I doubt, but crazy things happen sometimes), it certainly appears to be copyright infringement. As for determining the target market, there are several demographics that the advertiser can choose from, including most of the options in your “Info settings” (ie. gender, age, location, etc…), keywords that you included in your “Interests” and even FaceBook groups or pages that you are a member of. I don’t think that all advertisers are careful about their targeting, because I certainly get ads for services that should not be targeted to me at all (ie. once got an ad for a medical service provided in the UK … hmmmm, my account clearly states that I am in Canada). That can result in a waste of time, money and effort by the advertiser.

  4. in the middle of a project trying to write the right google ads for my product that will attract mds. I know that I will click on that type of ad if I am involved in a topic and the ads appear near my typed text. I will click on the humourous ones, too. Trying to target the ads for our audience is a mystery so far. I think the next step is to leave all things medical out of the equation and place ads where docs go to relax on the web…hmmmwhere would that be?

  5. Your sample of ads seem to reflect of of two scenarios: not-exactly-household-name- products that have 0 budget behind them looking for way to gain inexpensive exposure or more well-known brands dabbling in advertising on Facebook.

    The other observation I should make is most of the ads don’t even come out and tell you what brand is behind them so it is difficult to comment on their strategy other than the rather worn-out tactic of trying to lure you into the click-through.

    I’d agree with others here though, ads on Facebook are pretty-much NOT sponge-worthy! And a word to the wise — the sponge is not an effective means of protection from STD’s.

    “Sponge-worthy” is probably not trade-marked. And even if it was, it has probably moved into the public domain. I’d imagine Jerry or Larry would have trouble suing.
